What exactly does the junior editor do at CFLM? As the junior editor, you will assist with the following:
Reading submissions as they are received
Reviewing submissions with senior editors and determining accepted/declined pieces
Light outreach to local institutions to raise magazine awareness (local to where you are and/or local to our home base)
Brainstorming future series and events (IRL or virtual)
If there is an interest, assisting with social media (Facebook and Instagram)
What kind of person is the right fit? While we don't have any hard and fast position requirements, the following are preferred:
Someone who is collaborative in nature and looks forward to working with others
Flexibility for reviewing and vetting pieces
Experience with peer review, editing, and/or publishing, regardless of field
BONUS: Prior experience working with a literary magazine or journal
What is the commitment scope? This is an unpaid, volunteer role, so the commitment is flexible! We operate on pre-set, dated deadlines, but we don't track hours. As long as you're available for virtual meetings every month or so (we will determine dates/times that work for everyone), then it doesn't matter how or when you work, just that you're pitching in. The overall goal of the magazine is to publish great writing, and to have fun along the way!
